Africa-Press – Botswana. The Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi, has unveiled a new approach to fast-track the construction of Bonno housing units across the country. The strategy involves assigning five contractors to each constituency to ensure housing projects are completed on schedule.
Speaking during a media briefing this morning, Minister Ramogapi acknowledged that a shortage of land continues to be a major challenge for the ministry. This constraint could affect the delivery of the ambitious target of 100,000 houses within three years.
Despite the challenge, the minister reassured the public that the goal remains achievable. He emphasised that effective solutions are already being implemented to overcome land limitations and maintain construction timelines.
The new contractor assignment strategy aims to increase accountability and efficiency in the Bonno National Housing Programme. By distributing responsibilities among multiple contractors, the ministry expects faster project execution and improved quality of housing units.
Minister Ramogapi’s announcement reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the country’s housing deficit while ensuring that Batswana have access to affordable and timely housing solutions.
