Africa-Press – Botswana. Debswana Senior Human Resources Manager for Cultural Transformation, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, Ms. Kefilwe Mokone, shared insights on inclusive business practices at the Banana Club Economic Inclusion Forum last week. She participated both as a keynote speaker and as a panelist.
In her keynote titled “Inclusion as Economic Strategy: Building Resilient, Future-Ready Markets,” Ms. Mokone urged stakeholders to rethink inclusion as more than a social responsibility. She said inclusive practices have the potential to drive business growth and strengthen Botswana’s economy. She emphasised that tackling national challenges requires re-imagining growth in ways that involve all members of society.
Ms. Mokone warned against tokenism and identity politics. She encouraged building markets that reflect the diversity of society, where innovation, authenticity, and belonging guide performance. “For Botswana to thrive, our markets and businesses must mirror the richness of our society,” she stated.
During the panel discussion on “Inclusive Business Practices: Key Strategies for Growth,” Ms. Mokone shared practical lessons from Debswana’s experience. She explained that embracing diversity and inclusion has helped the organisation perform better and innovate more effectively. She stressed that inclusion initiatives should ensure that companies genuinely represent the broader society they operate in.
Entrepreneur and innovator Sylvester Chauke also joined the panel, contributing perspectives on inclusive business practices and strategies for economic growth.
Ms. Mokone’s presentation reinforced the link between diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, and sustainable economic performance, highlighting that inclusive business strategies are essential for resilient, future-ready markets.
