MOLEPOLOLE SOUTH PRIORITISES ROAD PROJECTS

Africa-Press – Botswana. Molepolole South constituency will prioritise road projects with the money it receives from Constituency Community Projects (CCP), area MP, Mr Kabo Morwaeng has said.

Addressing kgotla meetings at Lekgwapheng and Lephaleng wards on Monday, the MP said some internal roads in Molepolole were either incomplete or in a bad state, so the funds should be used for their completion and improvement.

Furthermore, Mr Morwaeng promised residents that more road networks would be created in the village through the Transitional National Development Plan.

Among those, he said, would be a 12km bypass road that would decongest Molepolole main road.

He said the village would further benefit from another 25km of internal roads apart from those constructed through CCP funds.

He pleaded with residents to understand the rationale behind not distributing the funds according to village wards, reasoning that most road networks were making the village inaccessible.

Mr Morwaeng, also Minister for State President, said cabinet took a decision that CCP funds should be used to develop road networks, not only in Molepolole, adding the two Molepolole constituencies’ funds would make a difference in improving roads and easing traffic within the village.

He also apprised residents on the restructuring of district councils, saying it was meant to decentralise services and improve administrative expediency.

He noted that the upgrading would result with three fully fledged district councils of Kweneng, Mogoditshane and Letlhakeng.

He, however, said the process would not affect the jurisdiction or the established bogosi territories.

“Government took this decision to address key national challenges such as citizen participation and accountability, local economic development and public sector efficiency, including coordination of government initiatives at the district level,” he said.

He said it had always been government’s desire to bring services closer to the people in order to enhance local response to challenges, among other things.

The MP further informed residents about other developments that include construction of police stations at Ratotobolo and Suping as well as refurbishment of the current police station

He said he was aware of the plight of residents concerning murder cases that were reported almost every month.

In that regard, he pleaded with parents to guide their children and to teach them to respect women as they were the most victimised.

For their part, residents appreciated the briefing, but reasoned that CCP funds empowered wards as each had its own priorities.

They called for the empowerment of Batswana in the envisaged projects, saying tenders should afford them opportunities for employment.
