Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Caizin and Naval Command wastewater collection pumping units are now operational. The Ribeira de Julião, Campim, Dji d’Sal, and Lazareto stations are scheduled to go into operation today. Information released to the press by Crisis Office spokesperson Vitória Veríssimo highlights the partial operation of the wastewater collection pumping station.
“The station is already operational. All three pumps are already working. The Caizin collection station is also operating normally. The ETE still has a pump undergoing mechanical testing with technicians. We ask the public not to throw fabrics or rags into the sewer, as all this material prevents the machines from operating. The sewer covers, as we have already seen, are slightly open and scattered throughout the city. They will begin to be replaced due to the normal drainage of these waters, and they will be operational again,” she indicated.
According to the Crisis Office spokesperson, infrastructure repair and cleaning work continues with the support of Portuguese Navy personnel, who arrived last week for a 15-day mission.
“The Portuguese Navy team remains in São Vicente and will continue supporting technicians, divers, engineers, and electricians, working with us, along with our local technicians and engineers, to restore normal operation of the various pumps. The team was scheduled to stay for 15 days, so this upgrade will be carried out according to the team’s availability. The engineers were working yesterday and continue working, alongside our engineers, to restore the WWTP to normal operation, to allow this wastewater drainage system to begin operating normally. When we say normal, we mean within the context of a disaster,” she explains.
When asked about the operational status of the previously announced 800 11 12 hotline, Vitória Veríssimo states that the process is still ongoing.
“The line is not yet operational, it is the 800 11 12 line, as I had already said, which is the same line we had used during Covid, but as communication was greatly affected, we are in the process of trying to make the line only restricted to São Vicente and we are working in this direction, to have this line working with the company”, he assures.
