Africa-Press – Cape verde. The expansion and modernization works of the passenger terminal and runway lighting at São Filipe aerodrome, completed at the end of June 2026, will be inaugurated this Wednesday, the 4th, by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva.

The project, which will bring comfort to visitors and the population of Fogo Island, with the possibility of night flights thanks to the runway lighting, represents an investment of almost one million escudos.

The project is part of a strategic plan to grant the public airport service to private initiative, with the objective of modernizing the country’s airport infrastructure, attracting new air operators and strengthening tourism as an engine of economic development.

According to a press release, the interventions at the island’s airport infrastructure will reinforce operational safety and air connectivity on Fogo Island.

Also on Wednesday, the 4th, the inauguration of LED public lighting on the access road to São Filipe aerodrome will be marked, along with the launch of the cycle path and pedestrian walkway to promote sustainable mobility.

The interventions at the aerodrome aim to improve operational and functional safety and, in addition to runway lighting, the old infrastructure has undergone transformation with interventions in the departure and arrival areas, the VIP terminal, and exterior lighting, among others.

The inauguration of the expansion and modernization works at São Filipe aerodrome, “an important milestone for the connectivity and development” of the island, according to the same source, will be presided over by the Prime Minister and will be attended by the director of Vinci Airports, Thierry Ligonnière, the CEO of Cabo Verde Airports, and the mayor of São Filipe, among other entities.
