AJOC welcomes the rise of positions in the ranking of the RSF but warns of the need for “correction of course”

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The AJOC welcomed the rise of three positions of Cabo Verde in the world ranking of the RSF, alerting, however, to the need for “course correction” so that the country can reach the African Top 3.

This statement was stated by the president of the Association of Journalists of Cabo Verde (AJOC), Geremias Furtado, during the 2nd edition of the Freedom of the Press Gala, held this Wednesday night, 3rd, at the National Assembly, which featured performances by Zé Rui de Pina, Luna Cruz, Ló de Pina, George Tavares, Mindela Soares, Manel di Candinho, Braz de Andrade and Zul Alves.

According to the president of the AJOC, the celebration of May 3 is also an opportunity to remind government officials of the need to respect their commitments with regard to the Constitution and the laws of the country in favor of freedom of the press, stressing that the event must be also a day of reflection for media professionals on issues related to freedom of the press and professional ethics.

He said that 2022 had been “very difficult” for the media in Cabo Verde, and noted that the Repórteres Sem Fronteiras (Reporters Without Borders) (RSF) press freedom report published on Wednesday “reflects well this reality” in the archipelago.
