Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Cape Verdean Association for the Fight Against Gender-Based Violence (ACLCVGB) today highlighted the gains made by women in different sectors, which are due to the work of civil society organisations, which must be recognised.
Vicenta Fernandes was speaking to the press as part of a round table held in the Calabaceira neighbourhood by the association she heads, in honour of International Women’s Day.
According to the same source, 8 March is an “important date” for women around the world, inviting everyone to assess the gains and challenges women have faced in society over time.
“So we are holding this round table to discuss what needs to be done, what needs to be changed in society so that we can have an increasingly healthy society free from violence”, she stated.
In her opinion. Today, almost 50 years after independence, the country has made “many advances” through public policies on women’s issues adopted by successive governments, and she also highlighted the contribution of civil society organizations.
“If we have made some gains today, especially in terms of education, health, economic empowerment and women’s political participation, this is largely due to the work of civil society organizations, which must be acknowledged,” she said.
On the other hand, she pointed out many challenges still faced by Cape Verdean women related to violence, justice and equality, and said that these challenges must be addressed so that Cape Verde can continue to develop and place women at the center of attention.
She assured that, since its creation almost ten years ago, the ACLCVBG’s main concern has been to work on preventing GBV and to carry out actions such as psychological and legal support, within the government’s public policies.
She took the opportunity to call for all families to unite so that they can live freely and in a healthy world.
The event also included the signing of a cooperation protocol with the Association of Women Entrepreneurs (AMES) which aims to strengthen the activities of ACLCVBG.
