Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the National Assembly, Austelino Correia, began a five-day visit to Luxembourg this Friday, where he will meet with the Cape Verdean community, highlighting the importance of integration and the permanent connection with the archipelago.
“We are very pleased and very proud of our emigrants, our community, our diaspora here in Luxembourg for this integration”, said the leader of the Parliamentary House, in statements to Rádio de Cabo Verde (RCV).
Austelino Correia highlighted that the Cape Verdean community in Luxembourg is very well integrated, which reinforces the pride and satisfaction of the country’s authorities in relation to the diaspora.
According to the President of the National Assembly, this information was already known, as the monitoring of Cape Verdean communities in the different host countries has been a constant practice.
“My counterpart, the President of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies, was in Cape Verde not long ago (…) and the information we received is that our community is very well integrated and contributes immensely to the development of Luxembourg, as it has also contributed to the development of Cape Verde”, he stated.
Austelino Correia, who visited the Cape Verdean Embassy in Luxembourg, said that the ambassador reinforced this perception, highlighting the role of diplomatic representation in supporting the community.
The President of the National Assembly had the opportunity to witness the service provided to Cape Verdean citizens and expressed his satisfaction with the work carried out by the Embassy, ensuring that immigrants are well assisted.
The head of the Parliament, who will meet with the community this afternoon, considered it a high point of his visit, since he will convey an institutional message of recognition and encouragement.
For Austelino Correia, it is essential that Cape Verdeans abroad continue to be well integrated, respecting the laws of the host country, but without ever losing their ties to their country of origin.
“To encourage them to increasingly participate in the development of the host country, but also to never disconnect from Cape Verde, our land, our roots, which gives us everything”, he stressed.
Austelino Correia was accompanied by the parliamentary leader of the Movement for Democracy (MpD), the African Independence Party (PAICV) and the president of the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID).
According to the program, Austelino Correia will be received by Grand Duke Henri, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and members of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies.
The agenda also includes a meeting with Cape Verdean students at a Luxembourg university, with a view to strengthening the role of education in bilateral cooperation.
