Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Basketball Team starts training for the World Cup on August 15, informed the national team. Emanuel Trovoada also admitted holding an international tournament in Cidade da Praia as part of the preparation of the national team.
The coach explained that, right after the calculation, the national team started the preparation, but the official training sessions should start on the 15th of August.
“It is fundamental to have the notion that our players are coming from the end of the season and there is work to be done for the recovery of the players, which is very short”, warned the national helmsman, referring that Edy Tavares (Real Madrid), Betinho Gomes and Ivan Almeida (Benfica) who have already played more than eight games for their respective teams.
As part of the preparation for the World Cup, Emanuel Trovoada added the idea of holding an international tournament, in Praia, “so that Cape Verdeans can see the national team”.
“Then we go looking for friendly matches, which we lacked when we went to Afrobasket. If we have the opportunity to play three or four games, we will arrive in Japan much better”, he predicted.
Cape Verde for the first time in the Basketball World Cup
The Cape Verdean team qualified for the first time on the 26th of February this year for the World Cup, an event that will feature the participation of 32 teams, between the 25th of August and the 10th of September, in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Cape Verde is one of the five African countries to represent the continent at the 2023 World Cup, along with South Sudan, Ivory Coast, Egypt and Angola.
