Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verdean men’s handball team resumes its training camp today in Ansião (Portugal) in preparation for the African Nations Championship (CAN2026), which takes place from December 21st to 31st in Kigali (Rwanda).
After a short break for the New Year, the team, according to the Cape Verdean Handball Federation (FCA), resumes its work in the Portuguese municipality of Ansião this morning.
The Serbian coach, Ljubomir Obradovic, who is opting for a mix of the usual players, mostly from the diaspora, and the new generation of athletes recruited from Cape Verde, wants to use this time to raise the technical, tactical and competitive levels of the team.
The FCA considers that the training camp in this Portuguese region has allowed them to strengthen “the excellent institutional partnership” between the federation, the Municipality of Ansião and the Leiria Handball Association.
According to the same source, it has been “fundamental in creating better conditions for the preparation and development” of the national team.
Cape Verde shares Group D of the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), which takes place from January 21st to 31st in Rwanda, with Morocco, Congo, and Benin.
