Africa-Press – Cape verde. The writer Lourenço de Pina will launch his book “Cape Verde, Stories and Memories” next Friday, the 20th. The book compiles 50 testimonies from elderly Cape Verdeans, with an average age of 83, collected throughout the archipelago.
The book presentation will take place in the Auditorium of the National Library.
In an interview with Inforpress, the author revealed that the publication presents narratives linked to childhood, family, faith, agriculture, migration, festivals, and survival strategies, composing a vivid portrait of the national collective memory.
According to Lourenço de Pina, these are “fragments that reveal the profound essence of a resilient people.”
More than a simple record, the book is a tribute to the elderly, preserving values, knowledge, and traditions that sustain Cape Verdean identity.
Written in a simple and direct style, the work recovers customs, proverbs, and memories, organized into several chapters across more than two hundred pages, also highlighting important figures in the country’s history, from Santo Antão to Brava.
For Lourenço de Pina, the book also serves as a reminder of the importance of recording memories, emphasizing the need to preserve the life stories of older generations as a legacy for the future.
“Cape Verde, Stories and Memories” is the author’s sixth book, and he is already preparing new literary projects.
Among them are “Secret in Tears” and “Santa Cruz, the Municipality with History,” currently in the graphic preparation phase.
This year, the writer also plans to release three more books.
