Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Commission for Human Rights and Citizenship produced 20,000 kits of educational materials on “Human Rights for Children” from 05 to 10 years old, aiming at the learning of the subject in the formal education system.
It is intended with the initiative under the project “Human Rights for Children, contribute to a greater culture of respect and practice of Human Rights in Cape Verde, laying the foundations for children to internalize these principles and become conscious and human rights-aware adults.
In this sense, the president of the National Commission for Human Rights and Citizenship, Eurídice Mascarenhas, today carried out the first act of symbolic delivery of educational materials, this time to the Cape Verdean Institute of Children and Adolescents (ICCA), in the presence of the president of the institution, Zaida Freitas.
The offer contains the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Children, Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Children printed in Braille, Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Children in audiovisual and television and radio spot with gestural translation.
The 20,000 kites, whose funding is around 16,000 escudos, and should be distributed on all islands, through the Ministry of Education, also contain an education manual for Human Rights, notebooks of activities (I E II) of education for Human Rights and Loto Game of Images on Human Rights.
The president of CNDHC informed that in addition to the use in formal education, the materials are also available on the digital platforms of the organization and may be downloaded and used by other public institutions and society for the transmission of human rights values to children.
Eurídice Mascarenhas for those who this symbolic delivery moment of inclusive kits, is “very important”, stressed that investing in children is investing in the future.
“When we want to change a society we have to start with the children, because with their attitude they can also change the attitude of parents and the community,” he analyzed, highlighting the importance of this project that begins with children from 5 to 10 years.
“It’s like seeing a child born. We are in a society that we increasingly need to work, promote, educate and protect children,” he said.
Analyzing the “enongerous investment” that also involved the training and preparation of teachers at the country level, Eurídice Mascarenhas said that it was worth it and “story to recognize and value” the effort made in this sense.
For her part, attributing the importance of this kite for its pedagogical component and in the implementation of a national strategy for Human Rights in the country, the president of ICCA Zaida Freitas said that instilling these “extremely important” values at an early age will contribute to the very protection of the Human Rights of Children.
“So this Human Rights for Children kit will be of the utmost importance, because they will have content to work on fundamental human rights values. And we want, within this partnership with CNDHC, that, in fact, the grammar of Human Rights is part of the daily lives of children and adolescents,” he said.
The project “Human Rights for Children” was promoted by CNDHC and funded by PlanB?rnefonden, UNDP and Portuguese Cooperation, with the strategic partnership of the Ministry of Education of Cape Verde.
