Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Civil Defense of São Vicente has begun the preventive evacuation of some residents in high-risk areas due to the approaching tropical wave. This information was provided by Crisis Office spokesperson Vitória Veríssimo during the daily briefing.
“Therefore, we are currently carrying out the preventive evacuation of some people living in high-risk areas, namely São Paulo, Vila Nova, and Cruz de Papa. This measure is solely for safety reasons, in case we experience rain this weekend,” she said.
The National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INMG) has warned of the approaching tropical wave that will affect the entire archipelago this weekend.
When asked about the risk of further flooding, Vitória Veríssimo assured that cleanup and clearing of main roads is underway.
“One of the first actions was to clean the water outlets in the 12 de Setembro region, because the water is so strong and the drainage capacity is reduced due to accumulated mud and soil. Today, we will also have a team from the Armed Forces in this area. We ask for people’s understanding, as the teams are working in stages, working morning and afternoon to ensure support and cleanup in all locations,” he explained.
The cleanup operation, inside and outside the city, involves a contingent of 180 military personnel, as well as members of the National Police.
Furthermore, the Crisis Office reported that Civil Protection is working to activate a hotline, which will be available to the public for any support needed during this period of risk.
