Africa-Press – Cape verde. The information was provided to Inforpress by the leader of the Santo Antão Agricultural Producers Alliance, Vanderley Rocha, who explained that this gesture aims to contribute to the food security of the population hit by the storm that hit São Vicente Island this week.
The action will begin next week, and over the course of a month, the Santo Antão Agricultural Producers Alliance expects to deliver between eight and 16 tons of produce to São Vicente to be donated to vulnerable populations.
Vanderley Rocha indicated that this operation involves several partners, including the Center for Rural Studies and International Agriculture (CERAI) and the Friends of Nature Association, which, through their projects on Santo Antão, will provide full support to producers so that the produce reaches families.
The produce will be delivered to social institutions on the island, which will then distribute it to families. In addition to vegetables, the plan is to also send a variety of fruits, such as mangoes, papayas, and bananas.
Meanwhile, the Ribeira da Cruz community, through the local agricultural warehouse, has prepared a donation of two tons of agricultural produce, which will be delivered this Saturday in São Vicente to families affected by the floods.
In addition to the non-governmental organizations CERAI and the Associação dos Amigos da Natureza, which provided logistical support in São Vicente, this initiative also involved local farmers, the shipping company CV Interilhas, and the Ribeira da Cruz municipal government.
