Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Honorato Gomes Association, a non-profit legal entity that aims to provide social and economic support to its members and the community of Fogo Island, was established with its publication in the Official Gazette.
The new association, headquartered in the city of São Filipe, had its articles of incorporation published in the Official Gazette No. 70, Series II, on Tuesday, April 15.
The association’s main purposes will be social support — including death benefits, medical and medication assistance —, socializing among members and assessing credit operations for the development of members’ businesses.
Cooperation with other national and international associations, support for education and families in vulnerable situations, as well as partnerships with public and private entities, are other planned purposes.
The association will be represented by the chairman of the board, who will act on its behalf before institutions and in legal proceedings. It is registered under NIF 500005940 and will operate indefinitely.
The creation of the Honorato Gomes Association is an initiative to “strengthen” the social support network on the island, promoting not only material assistance, but also fostering unity among members and local economic development.
“This association was born out of the need to create sustainable mechanisms for mutual support, especially in situations of financial or health difficulties,” stated the president of the association’s board, Yolando de Pina Gomes.
The same source added that a meeting will be held with the other members of the association to schedule a date for its official launch.
With the publication in the Official Gazette, the Honorato Gomes Association is formally established and should, in the coming months, publish its internal regulations.
Honorato Gomes was one of the founding members of the microcredit institution “Soldifogo Coop” and, between 2018 and 2024, served on the board of directors.
He was also a collaborator of “Soldifogo Coop” and, since 2003, has contributed to the establishment of the microfinance institution on the island of Fogo.
Before that, he was an employee of the Ministry of Agriculture and, during the First Republic (1975-1991), a member of the PAICV.
Honorato Gomes passed away on May 28, 2024, and the creation of the association is a way of recognizing the work carried out for the benefit of society and perpetuating his legacy.
