Fogo Island Hosts International Wine And Agricultural Fair

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Fogo Island will host the international wine, beverage, and agricultural products fair “Provinho” from the 28th to the 30th of this month, an event dedicated to wine tourism and the promotion of local products.

Promoted by the Ministry of Tourism and Transport, in partnership with Infoplus, “Provinho” is part of the strategic actions of the Operational Tourism Program (POT) and the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development II (PEDS II).

This initiative, according to a press release from the Ministry of Tourism and Transport, reinforces the Government’s commitment to sustainable development, economic growth, and the promotion of the Fogo Special Economic Zone (ZEEF).

“Provinho” will bring together national and international producers, winemakers, chefs, specialists, tourism trade agents, and institutional partners, offering “a privileged space” for promotion, networking, and strategic reflection on the agri-food and tourism potential of the island and the country.

The initiative aims to transform and strengthen the island’s economy and position Fogo as a competitive investment destination in the agribusiness, nature tourism, geotourism, cultural tourism, and blue economy sectors, with environmental, economic, and social sustainability.

With its imposing volcano, varied microclimates, and unique natural resources, Fogo Island presents ideal conditions for the development of activities related to science, mountain tourism, and agricultural production, according to the same source.

The event will offer the public wine tastings, guided tastings, show cookings, and direct contact with leading producers from the country and abroad.

In parallel, it seeks to identify new business opportunities, expand the distribution of emerging brands, and consolidate Fogo wine as a national benchmark with international projection.

The program includes conferences on the sustainability of Fogo wine and the valorization of the Fogo Region in the context of oenology, visits to producers Chã, Sodade, Monte Barro (Maria Chaves), Monte Losna and the Monte Grande Cheese Cooperative, as well as a food court with exhibitors of agricultural products, restaurants and cultural entertainment.

By establishing itself as the leading professional fair in the sector in Cape Verde, “Provinho” 2025 aims to attract producers, importers, distributors, sommeliers, retailers and consultants, creating an environment conducive to learning, partnerships and new investments.

The vision is to transform Fogo wine into a Cape Verdean brand with a guaranteed presence at major international events.
