Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Cape Verdean Football Federation (FCF), Mário Semedo, today highlighted the “prestige and influence” that Cape Verde gains by hosting the meeting of the UFOA-A Executive Committee.
Cape Verde is hosting the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Union of West African Football Federations (UFOA-A) today, an event that reinforces the country’s position in the African football scene.
Speaking to the press, the leader of the FCF, Mário Semedo, stressed that bringing meetings of this magnitude to Cape Verde gives credibility to national sports institutions and opens doors to future opportunities.
Mário Semedo, who is also vice-president of the UFOA-A, highlighted the growing involvement of Cape Verdeans in international football decision-making bodies, with representatives in FIFA and on the permanent committees of the UFOA-A.
“For a small country like Cape Verde, this is very significant and important,” he said.
The UFOA-A meeting gained even more relevance as it preceded the general assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in March, at which key positions for the organisation and for the FIFA Council will be decided.
“We will analyse several applications, and the decisions that come out of this may have an impact on the future of CAF and FIFA”, explained Mário Semedo.
“Cape Verde was chosen to host the meeting by the president of UFOA-A, Lamine Bajo, despite competition from other countries. He wanted the meeting to be held here, as he believes that Cape Verde has more results and credibility”, he highlighted.
The meeting of the UFOA-A Executive Committee, taking place in Praia, will be attended by the presidents of the football federations of Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal and Sierra Leone.
