Africa-Press – Cape verde. Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg announced that his country had decided to have a diplomatic presence in Cape Verde, starting in autumn, with an ambassador residing in the archipelago, strengthening relations between the two countries.

The announcement was made during a statement on Tuesday night, the 23rd, at the gala dinner hosted by Henri de Luxemburgo and the Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, in honor of the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, and the First Lady, Débora Carvalho, who are in Luxembourg for a state visit.

“It is with great pleasure that I announce that Luxembourg has decided to raise the level of its diplomatic presence in Cape Verde. Starting this autumn, our diplomatic mission will be under the responsibility of a resident ambassador. Our direct ties and our friendship will be strengthened,” he declared.

More than 30 candidates of Cape Verdean origin are running for next month’s municipal elections

The monarch did not forget to mention that the National Council of Women of Luxembourg, an organization whose main objective is to promote equality between women and men, has a president of Cape Verdean origin, examples that for him “illustrate this beautiful integration”.

He also said that there are more than 30 candidates of Cape Verdean origin running for next month’s municipal elections, as well as many artists contributing to the cultural life of that country and the Luxembourg national football team has four players from Cape Verdean origin.

“In a country as multicultural as Luxembourg, coexistence is essential. The Cape Verdean community understood this well, also contributing in a notable way to the economic development of my country and I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart”, he underlined.

30 years of relationships

The current Indicative Cooperation Program (PIC) covers areas of employment and professional training, renewable energies, combating climate change, water and sanitation, micro-finance and decentralization, sectors considered important for Cape Verde to meet the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
