ICCA President reinforces commitment to eradicate violence against children and adolescents

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Cape Verdean Institute for Children and Adolescents (ICCA) highlights the commitment to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially 16.2, which aims to eradicate all forms of violence against children and adolescents. Zaida Freitas made these statements to the press this Friday, on the last day of the National Meeting of the Cape Verdean Institute for Children and Adolescents (ICCA), which took place in Santo Antão. “We are here to make this commitment among ourselves, which will obviously only be implemented and achieved if our partners are also aligned”, she stated. According to the person in charge, during the three days, the participants experienced intense exchanges of experiences and in-depth analyses of the ICCA’s performance. “It was a unique moment to reflect on the challenges faced and the achievements made. On this last day, the recommendations were presented as a collective commitment for the future of the institution”, she said. Zaida Freitas stresses the importance of investing in strengthening the ICCA, and points to the need for increasingly skilled human resources.

“Financial reinforcement is essential in practically all ICCA structures, so that we can have the means to implement our actions. We need to build a robust and comprehensive protection system, where all partners are with us on this journey, which is a great challenge”, she states.

During the meeting, the new ICCA delegates in Santo Antão and São Vicente, Lorena dos Reis and Diva Gomes, were also sworn in. The event brought together technicians from the institution to discuss and reflect on policies and strategies to strengthen the protection of children and adolescents in Cape Verde.
