Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Energy today highlighted the contribution of the energy transition in reducing Cabo Verde’s vulnerabilities, indicating, however, that it is a process that requires interventions on several fronts and with involvement of everyone.
Alexandre Monteiro, who was speaking during the first cycle of extended social debate, held this Wednesday as part of the preparation of the 2023/2026 Strategic Concertation Agreement, stressed that it is imperative to build a broad consensus on the energy transition which, in its perspective, will be a fundamental step towards a prosperous and sustainable future.
“The energy transition plays a key role in reducing a country’s vulnerability, both in terms of cushioning external shocks and taking advantage of global opportunities for the country’s economic and social development”, he stressed.
According to the minister, the impact will be, above all, on the reduction of dependence on fossil fuels, both for electricity production and in terms of mobility needs (transport sector), which will therefore contribute to reducing costs and also increase the country’s energy security.
