Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Augusto Veiga, met this Wednesday, the 6th, with the Minister of Education, Amadeu Cruz, in a working meeting dedicated to strengthening joint projects between the two ministries, with a focus on the integration of culture and education.

According to the Ministry of Culture, one of the main topics discussed was the Cape Verde National Reading Plan (PNLCV), implemented approximately five years ago, with the mission of promoting reading habits, expanding access to books, and promoting Cape Verdean literature.

“Coordinated by the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries (MCIC), through the National Library Institute of Cape Verde (IBNCV), the PNLCV has been an essential instrument for fostering literacy in the country,” he emphasized.

The same source stated that during the meeting, the Minister of Education reaffirmed his commitment to continue supporting the Plan, strengthening collaboration between the two ministries in promoting reading, literacy, and knowledge of national authors.

In addition to the PNLCV, other topics were highlighted, such as Cape Verde’s participation in the next UNESCO General Conference, the country’s candidacy for the organization’s Executive Board, the continuation of the Kodáli project, and the promotion of the Cape Verdean language.

On this last point, the introduction of optional Cape Verdean language instruction in schools, a measure already in effect, was highlighted, along with the launch of teaching materials in the mother tongue.

“These actions reflect the Government’s commitment to promoting and preserving Creole, consolidating the foundations for its future officialization,” the MCIC stated.
