Africa-Press – Cape verde. US Ambassador Jennifer Adams clarified today the details of a new bail policy to be implemented for international visitors, and that Cape Verde is not included in the pilot project.

The diplomat, who is visiting Fogo Island, when asked about the $15,000 bail, explained that the new measure involves a bail system that requires certain visitors to deposit a sum as a guarantee, which will be refunded after the end of their trip.

“It’s a bail that the visitor has to deposit and leave this money while visiting the US and receives the money back after the visit,” the diplomat explained.

Currently, the project is only being tested in two African countries, Malawi and Zambia, and does not yet apply to Cape Verdean citizens.

“Cape Verde is not included,” Ambassador Jennifer Adams assured.

Additionally, Jennifer Adams confirmed that another $250 bond will be maintained as part of a global policy that will take effect in 2026.

“They’re setting the rules for how, when, and all the details of the return of the $250, but it will be returned,” she stated.
