Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Ribeira do Ilhéu primary school, whose renovation work is inaugurated today, will have its own solar energy system, as part of the project financed by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
The infrastructure, according to a press release from the Mosteiros council, is connected to the public electricity grid, but will soon have its own solar energy system.
The requalification and reconstruction of the Ribeira do Ilhéu primary school is included in the municipal programme for the requalification of the school park and cost, according to the same source, 43 thousand contos, financed by the council at 57.8 percent (%), with its own resources and others mobilised from the Luxembourgish non-governmental organisation Betebuerg Helleft (24,300 contos).
A group of emigrants from Ribeira do Ilhéu in the USA raised a total amount of 14 thousand contos, equivalent to 33.3% of the work and the Ministry of Education contributed 4,700 contos (11.1%).
Initially, the rehabilitation of the Ribeira Ilhéu school, including its equipment with school materials and computers, was budgeted at around 20 thousand contos, shared by the emigrants of this community based in the United States of America who contributed 65 percent, the Ministry of Education with 25% and the council with ten percent, which is why the delegate of the Ministry of Education in Mosteiros finds the value of the investment now presented by the council strange.
The new primary school in Ribeira do Ilhéu has four classrooms, a multimedia room, a cafeteria, a teachers’ room and a management office, a kitchen and four bathrooms.
It is inaugurated today by the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, in a ceremony that will be attended by the Minister of Education, Amadeu Cruz, local authorities, emigrants and guests.
After the inauguration of the rehabilitation and expansion works at the Ribeira Ilhéu primary school, north of Mosteiros, a dinner will be offered by the group of emigrants who co-financed the reconstruction and a musical evening with performances by local artists and guests such as MC Acondize, Hélio Batalha, DJ Mendes, based in the emigrant community in the United States, and rapper DPain.
