Africa-Press – Cape verde. Porto Novo: MpD Advises City Hall to Explain to Residents About “bumps” Within the Executive Branch
The Movement for Democracy (MpD) in the political region of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, today advised the Porto Novo city council to explain to the residents about “so many bumps” that have marked the performance of the municipal executive.
The municipal coordinator of the MpD, Damião Medina, said that the Porto Novo City Council owes an explanation to the residents of Porto Novo about “so many bumps since the beginning of the term,” highlighting the cases of the resignation of two councilors in just one year of the term.
“An elected councilor was prevented from taking office, a councilor abandoned his post and the reason is still unknown, and the director of the mayor’s office slammed the door quite recently,” the MpD leader specified.
The most recent case, according to the MpD, involves the director of health services, social action and gender who resigned from her position. The Porto Novo MpD (Movement for Democracy) questioned what is happening with “municipal management” and demanded an explanation from the city hall regarding the current situation.
The departure of the council members was justified, at the time, by the executive branch due to health problems, and they were replaced by alternates from the slate elected in the municipal elections of December 1, 2024.
Regarding the director of the mayor’s office and the director of health services, the city council informed that Mayor Elisa Pinheiro terminated their respective service commissions at their request.
