Africa-Press – Cape verde. The population of Planalto Norte, in the municipality of Porto Novo, Santo Antão, once again demanded explanations from the Government this Wednesday regarding the absence of a nurse in this locality since September 2024.
The spokesperson for the population, Fidel Neves, said that the inhabitants are “very distressed” by the delay in resolving the problem, recalling that the inhabitants have repeatedly requested the return of the nurse to Planalto Norte, as it is an isolated area.
Fidel Neves said that the residents will not stop complaining until the nurse problem is resolved, highlighting the need for care for the elderly and bedridden.
The removal of the nurse has left the 600 inhabitants without coverage, this resident stated.
The deputies of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV, opposition) elected for Santo Antão recently accused the Government of “lack of sensitivity” towards Planalto Norte, demanding greater attention from the Ministry of Health to isolated areas like this plateau, whose population is deprived of primary health care.
The health situation in the Northern Plateau has also attracted the attention of parliamentarians from the Movement for Democracy (MpD, in power), elected for Santo Antão, who, in a meeting with the Minister of Health, received assurances that conditions are being created for the relocation of nurses to the Northern and Eastern plateaus of Santo Antão.
