Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdeans used more times, with an increase of 16.4%, payment cards during the year 2023 and moved another 20.4% of money, compared to the previous year, according to data released this Monday by the central bank.
In its report of the payment system, the Bank of Cape Verde (BCV) advanced that last year the cards (national and international) were used 41,992.890 times, to move a total of 174,202.3 million escudos.
“Owim that, this instrument was used a further 5,929,948 times (16.4%), for the movement of another 29,562 million escudos (20.4%), when compared to the previous year,” the central bank wrote.
The same source found that, on average, 115,049 card transactions were carried out daily, worth 477.3 million escudos, or 16,246 more operations, which handled another 81 million escudos.
At the end of 2023, the vinti4 network had 12,166 active electronic terminals, of which 218 ATMs and 11,948 automatic payment terminals (POS) were adopted globally.
In the report, the BCV found that the national payments market remains marked by the “growing preference” of consumers for digital payment services.
At the end of the year, internet banking had an on-adched 22,500 active accounts (9.8%) and televinti4 had an 8,72 more active accounts (145.4%) compared to the end of 2022.
Most of them, the operations that resulted in the movement of funds in digital channels were carried out through internet banking (93.2%).
In addition to the realization of transfers, when compared to the previous year, it appears that the ‘internet banking’ was also widely used for the realization of services payments, having doubled the number of operations performed (90.9%).
In 2023, televinti4 processed 310,518 operations, worth 3,035 million escudos, with growths of 265.6% and 579.8%, respectively.
“Moves in e-commerce continued to evolve positively, both on national sites and on international sites,” the central bank continued.
Last year, 699,963 purchases were made, in the amount of 4,363 million escudos, in increases of 37.1% and 32.3%, respectively.
As in the previous year, people used national websites, mostly (47.9%), to make payments to the State, which registered 102,042 operations carried out.
In terms of values, more was spent on the acquisition of services related to hotels and travel, representing 78.4% of the total handled on national sites.
On international sites, purchases were mostly made in the general trade activities of goods and services, with a total of 184,449 (plus 29.3%), which handled 1,114.5 million escudos (10 million euros), plus 33.8%.
