Africa-Press – Cape verde. Farmers continue to lack information regarding the project to manage the Ribeira da Cruz river basin, in the municipality of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, a representative of the class confirmed this Sunday.
The president of the Jorge Luís Farmers Association, Otelindo Santos, told Inforpress that, despite being “an old demand”, farmers are still waiting for news about the planning project for this hydrographic basin.
This official said that it is the farmers’ wish that this project promised by the Government be implemented to give new dynamics to agricultural activity in these valleys which, despite the constraints, especially in terms of water, continue to be the most productive in the municipality of Porto Novo.
The Jorge Luís – Ribeira da Cruz river basin planning project proposes, precisely, the mobilization of water for agriculture in these two valleys, Inforpress found out.
The farmers propose, within the scope of this project, the recovery of the springs and a borehole that has been inoperative for several years.
In Morro Cavalo, in Ribeira da Cruz, the approximately 40 local farmers are demanding that a borehole be drilled in this agricultural perimeter, informed the representative, José Lima.
The delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in Porto Novo had assured Inforpress that this project is in the plans of this ministry, which is mobilizing financing for the execution of the works, which will focus, in the initial phase, on the mobilization of water and torrential correction.
The Jorge Luís – Ribeira da Cruz river basin planning project is to be financed by the African Development Bank (ADB).
