Porto Novo/Monte Trigo: Community Welcomes Start of Work at Local Plant

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The community of the Monte Trigo village, in the municipality of Porto Novo, today welcomed the start of work at the local plant, believing in the resumption of 24-hour electricity supply, still in 2025.

Community representative Maria Miranda told Inforpress that the local population welcomed the start of interventions at the solar energy production unit, which will be reinforced within the scope of the Monte Trigo integrated project.

Maria Miranda said she found that the panels and other equipment are already in Monte Trigo, whose plant is being invested in.

These will allow the reinforcement of the production capacity of the electricity production unit, which, in recent years, has been operating poorly.

The Monte Trigo integrated project, financed by the Government, is worth around 72 thousand contos, and consists, among other investments, of reinforcing the plant, whose capacity will increase from 40 kWp to 100 kWp, reestablishing the supply of electricity 24 hours a day.

The integrated project of the fishing village of Monte Trigo is already in the start-up phase with the arrival of the first equipment to the location, a technician linked to this project confirmed to Inforpress.

The project also consists of installing a seawater desalination unit with a production capacity of 25 cubic meters per day.

Inforpress learned that the seawater desalination unit is also already in the implementation phase within the scope of this integrated project.

Residents, who have been complaining about the poor quality of the water, with excess fluoride, say they are relieved that Monte Trigo will be able to consume quality water later this year.

The Porto Novo City Hall reassured this community, ensuring that conditions are being created with a view to improving the conditions in the supply of electricity and water supply in Monte Trigo.
