Africa-Press – Cape verde. The people of Porto Novo hope to have the opportunity to confront the government official with the need for a hospital in the municipality of Porto Novo during the new Health Minister’s visit to Santo Antão, starting on Tuesday, the 11th.
Jorge Figueiredo is expected in Santo Antão starting on the 11th of February for a three-day visit, an opportunity that the people of Porto Novo hope to take advantage of to ask the new Health Minister to build a hospital in this municipality, as Inforpress has confirmed.
This demand has been unanimous in Porto Novo, with residents and municipal authorities in agreement on the need for this municipality to already have a hospital capable of meeting the needs of the municipality.
Inforpress spoke to people about this issue, who have suggested that the Government prioritize the construction of the hospital, at a time when the current local health center, which has been operating for over 20 years, “no longer meets the needs” of users.
A source from the Porto Novo city council assured that the city council executive has already taken “important steps” to “find ways” to get the Government to meet the demands of the Porto Novo residents regarding the need for a hospital in Porto Novo.
The source assured that this is “an issue that the city council has on the table, and in these few days of management it has taken important steps” in relation to this matter.
“We guarantee that the new city council team, and particularly the president, have already taken important steps to find ways to resolve the hospital problem”, he assured.
In a recent meeting with the Porto Novo Health delegate, the new city council team considered it “extremely necessary to outline new strategies capable of responding to the demands and needs of the Porto Novo residents who are increasingly calling for better infrastructures”.
The previous Minister of Health, during one of her visits to Santo Antão, showed the Government’s willingness to consider the demands of the people of Porto Novo regarding the need to build a hospital in Porto Novo.
The health centre has been undergoing expansion works with a view to improving the conditions of care, and the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, on a recent visit to this hospital unit, noted the need to equip it.
The new Minister of Health is also expected to visit the construction works of the Ribeira das Patas health centre, which should be completed in June this year.
According to a note from the Ministry of Health, Jorge Figueiredo will be accompanied by “a strong technical team” from this ministry to monitor the progress of the works and projects underway, in addition to establishing direct contact with the health structures on the island to learn about their operation and challenges.
