Africa-Press – Cape verde. The pozzolan industry in the municipality of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, is in the process of being resumed to the satisfaction of residents, who have been asking for the relaunch of the cement factory.
Inforpress learned that the strategic partner chosen by the government for the relaunch of pozzolans, the Portuguese company Cimpor, is mobilizing equipment with a view to opening, between June and July, a pozzolanic cement production unit.
In a recent meeting between the municipal team and the company Cimpor, it was guaranteed that the industry will be resumed this semester or, at the latest, by July of this year, generating dozens of jobs.
Cimpor has a concession contract with the Government for the operation of the Porto Novo pozzolan factory, signed in 2023, which consists of the operationalization of the Porto Novo cement plant during 2025. Cimpor promised to invest 340 thousand contos in this industry through a new production unit.
The concession contract foresees the production of around half a million tons of cement per year, with the exploration of an area of 108 hectares.
