Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Portuguese Navy’s ocean patrol vessel Sines returned to the Lisbon Naval Base this Friday, the 29th, after completing a humanitarian and technical support mission in São Vicente, following the passage of the storm that caused nine deaths.
According to the Portuguese Armed Forces, for nearly two weeks, Portuguese military personnel delivered 80 tons of drinking water and provided specialized support to the Electra desalination plant, providing 40 hours of technical work that allowed the recovery of 50% of production capacity, approximately 5,000 cubic meters per day.
As part of the mission, 700 meals and 400 combat rations were also distributed to the neediest population. At the same time, the Portuguese Navy conducted five drone flights, capturing 5,618 images and mapping an area of 300 hectares on the islands of São Vicente and Santo Antão.
The Portuguese military also participated in cleanup operations in public buildings and roads, in close coordination with the Cape Verdean Navy, and conducted diving operations for underwater reconnaissance, covering an area of 30 square meters in Mindelo Bay.
