Africa-Press – Cape verde. Jailson Pereira Cabral, 28 years old, born in Achada Grande Frente, Praia, has proved to be a talent in Cape Verdean football. He started chasing the ball as a child following the logic of all boys who, between the ages of 5 and 12, dream of being football players.
“I dropped out of school very early because I was very addicted to the ball. The fight with my mother was that because I skipped classes to play with friends… I felt that I had found what I really wanted to do”, recalls Jailson, in an amused tone.
At the age of 17, he was accepted into the Asa Grande team of Achada Grande Frente, his community trained by Pala. “This first experience of mine has a great meaning. It was an opportunity I received to prove that I was in the right place and I managed to prove this, as I won, at the time, two consecutive seasons as top scorer ”, he recalls.
After this first opportunity, Jailson entered the evolution phase and moved on to other teams until he reached Figueira do Maio, Regional Champion of the island of Maio, season 2022/23.
Passing through multiple teams
After Asa Grande, he went through other teams, namely, Celtic, Delta, Boavista (Praia), Barreirense (May), Sporting da Praia, Amador (Tarrafal).
“This walk made me the athlete I am today. Always open to new experiences. I believe that in each of the teams I played for, I managed to make my contribution and learn from the respective coaches and even colleagues on the field”, says the young striker.
The title of Regional Champion of the island of Maio (2022/23) Jailson was considered the second best scorer with six (6) goals in eight (8) games. And his desire is to improve every day, winning the best titles at national level, towards an international career.
help the family
“I feel very happy when I’m on the field because I can forget about the world and focus only on the game. This is good for young people who, like me, come from a community that doesn’t have a good name, so to speak”, she says.
“My biggest dream is to be a professional player, to be an international footballer. I want to represent Cape Verde abroad and through football, to give my family a better life”, he wishes.
