São Vicente Outpatient Center Completed in October

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government expects to complete the works on the São Vicente Outpatient Centre by October. The information was released this Friday by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, on the sidelines of a visit to the island’s health infrastructures.

“In principle, we are aiming for this year, September, October, so that we can have the work finished, equipped, and provide São Vicente with a high-quality infrastructure”, he assures.

In October 2024, the Government made available, by direct agreement, more than 241 million contos for the completion of the project, which began in 2019 and has an execution period of 18 months.

Ulisses Correia e Silva denies that there has been any slippage in the works, initially budgeted at 250 million contos.

“It’s not a slippage, we had to make adjustments because new services were introduced during the execution of the project, which also ended up increasing its cost. Unfortunately, there was that period of standstill that we all know about, it wasn’t something we wanted or did to make happen, it also had to do with the financier, it also had to do with the need to reassess the project itself”, he guarantees.

The building, which occupies an area of 1,600 square meters, will include several services such as oncology, chronic diseases, ophthalmology, among other medical and administrative services.

For the head of the Government, the reinforcement of health services in São Vicente has a direct impact on improving the quality of care provided to the local population and in the northern region of the country.

“Because it will allow us to provide São Vicente with very good, technologically advanced and modern infrastructures and allow for what is most important, improving services to users, to the citizens of São Vicente, but also to the northern region of the country and the rest of the country, because we are a country of islands and we need to have interconnectivity and communications in the health sector as well. We will be taking a very positive step forward here”, he states.

The Prime Minister is in São Vicente to visit the health works and structures, accompanied by the new Minister of Health.

In addition to the Outpatient Consultation Centre, this morning the head of government visited the construction works of the new maternity ward at the Dr. Baptista de Sousa Hospital, carried out in partnership with the Chinese government, the Ribeira de Vinha Occupational Therapy Centre, as well as the CT and Haemodialysis services and the future Oxygen Centre.
