Africa-Press – Cape verde. Users of the Agostinho Neto University Hospital, in the city of Praia, contacted by Inforpress, complained about the little attention given by health professionals to patients.

The delay in presenting a diagnosis and scheduling appointments are also criticisms made by users who made a point of remembering that they only seek hospital services in search of better health.

Patient Ângela Tavares, despite highlighting the good performance at the Health Center level, criticized the services at Praia Central Hospital, where she says that in relation to scheduling appointments, for example, many years go by without calling the patient.

“Sometimes, when they decide to call the patient, they are already dead, so here it is God who helps us, because the hospital has not helped us. They put patients on the bench and, even though the patient is screaming in pain, they pay little attention,” he said.

That’s why he asks for a change in the situation, arguing that people should only go to the hospital in case of an affront and not when they are happy.

For her part, user Carla Ferreira reinforced that the hospital has not registered improvements in care, adding that, sometimes, people resort to consultations and are not presented with a diagnosis of their problem in a timely manner.

“In my case I had a back problem and they told me that my problem was gastritis, I was going to have surgery without knowing exactly what my health problem was, they said that I had a mass in my stomach, that I had a lump under my breast, so I ended up not signing and not operating”, he clarified.

After that, she says she was hospitalized for two weeks, where she was treated and was discharged and sent home.

“So that’s why many go looking for treatment abroad and others even die without knowing what,” he stressed, arguing that Hospital da Praia needs to change everything.

On the other hand, citizen Fatinha Lopes, who was at the door of the Emergency Bank waiting for a family member to be attended to, asked to consider a space right in front of the emergency services, with benches, so that family members can wait for their their patients when they are not allowed to accompany them.

João Barros, in turn, complained about not being allowed to accompany patients, explaining that a maximum of one family member is allowed to be in their company.

In your opinion, it is also necessary to improve the service a little, which, in your opinion, is not very good.

These criticisms were made to Inforpress within the scope of World Day of the Sick, established by Pope John Paul II, on February 11, 1992.

Inforpress contacted the clinical management of Hospital Agostinho Neto to address the matter, but this was not possible due to the “unavailability of the agenda” of the person responsible for the sector, so we hope to bring the institution’s reaction as soon as those responsible are available to exercise the contradictory .

This year, World Day of the Sick is celebrated under the motto “It is not convenient for man to be alone. Caring for the sick, taking care of relationships”.

In a message alluding to the day, Pope Francis recalls that the sick, the fragile and the poor are at the heart of the Church and must also be at the center of human concerns and pastoral care.

“In this changing era in which we live, especially we Christians are called to adopt the compassionate gaze of Jesus. Let us take care of those who suffer and are alone, perhaps marginalized and discarded, let us treat the wounds of loneliness and isolation”, reads the letter.

Only in this way, according to the Pope, will it be possible to contrast the culture of individualism, indifference, discarding and make the culture of tenderness and compassion grow.
