Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verde conquered this Friday, 18th in Accra (Ghana), the bronze medal in the Junior African Swimming Championship of Zone II, by achieving third place in the women’s 4×100 freestyle event, in relays.
The feat was achieved by swimmers Mayara Ramos, Aristeias Coutinho, Mayra, Évora and Adalgisa Delgado, who managed a time of seven minutes, 16 seconds and 35 hundredths (07’19′′35).
In the other individual events, Aristeias Coutinho was in ninth place in the 100-metre freestyle with a time of 01’37′′78, and in the 50-metre backstroke Mayra Ramos was in 12th place (56′′26), Mayra Évora in 16th (59′′27 ) and Adalgiza Delgado in the 17th with a time of 01’17′′38.
In the men’s category, Denil Monteiro was in ninth place (01 ’09 “46) and Mateus Almeida in 12th place (01′ 17” 14), in a race that had 14 swimmers.
Cape Verde is represented with eight athletes in this African Junior Swimming Championship of Zone II, which runs from, yesterday, Friday, 18th, to Sunday, 20th, in Accra (Ghana).
First participation ever
In this first ever participation in this African sub-regional competition, Cape Verde takes a delegation of ten elements, consisting of eight athletes, a coach and a manager.
The eight athletes belong to the swimming schools affiliated to the regional associations of Santiago, with four swimmers, Sal, with three, and Santo Antão Norte, with one swimmer.
According to the Cape Verdean Swimming Federation, the presence of the Cape Verdean team in this championship follows the 1st Junior National Swimming Championship, which took place last June, on the island of Sal.
