Africa-Press – Eswatini. The 2023 Imbube Marathon liSwati champion Constable Samukelisiwe Tfwala has added another feather to her cap.
Samu, as the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) Athletics Club runner is nicknamed, has graduated with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Tfwala was among the over 4 000 graduands of the University of Eswatini’s (UNESWA) 41st Graduation, this past week. “Most people were shocked that I was studying because they thought that as an athlete or a sports personality, you did not need education. But I believe that personal development is key, and education is one of the paths to take, as it helps open many doors for you, and you can rely on it more especially after reaching your expiry date as an athlete,” Samu said.
Her recent educational accomplishment follows her Bachelor’s Degree in Arts Humanities, which she obtained to youngsters. “I would like to encourage every athlete to explore this route, as it is possible to do it with the same effort of dedication and determination that you put in as an athlete,” she said. After winning almost every race this year, Samu said was focused on maintaining her record until her retirement. She is proud of her achievements and hopes to leave a legacy in the sport. “I love running and I will always run as long as I can. It is my passion and my life,” the road queen said. Behind her success are a supportive family and the REPS who also help her juggle between work, running and education.
