Africa-Press – Eswatini. Fun lovers will, this coming October, be part of what promises to be a colourful celebration with music, games and fundraising for a good cause.

The Manzini Lions Club is inviting the public to its Annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, 25 October, at the Manzini Club grounds, with the theme “60’s”. This event is the biggest fundraiser for the local Lions, aiming to raise essential funds to support their ongoing community work in Eswatini.

“We want this event to be a day of joy, family time and giving back to our communities. Every ticket purchased helps us feed children, support vulnerable communities and keep our projects running. We urge the public to be part of this initiative, and we also appeal to companies to support us with sponsorship,” said Mr. Simphiwe Dlamini, Manzini Lions Club representative.

Lions International was founded in 1917 and today has around 1.4 million members in over 49,000 clubs in more than 200 countries. The Manzini Lions Club itself was chartered in 1981 and forms part of District 410E, which covers roughly half of Southern Africa.

The Lions movement is dedicated to helping those in need, especially communities and organisations. Globally, Lions focus on five major causes that present significant challenges to humanity:

-Vision

-Diabetes

-Hunger

-Environment

-Childhood Cancer

As Lions, they aim to serve wherever the need is greatest, with activities as varied as the needs of the communities they support.

In Eswatini, the Manzini Lions Club sponsors daily meals for around 450 children at four neighbourhood care points: Makholweni, Ndlandlameni, Mafutseni and Lavundlamanti. They also support the Mpaka Refugee Camp.

During the Christmas period, the Club organises food parcels for different communities and distributes blankets and clothes donated by members and friends of Lions. Other community projects include blood drives in partnership with the Blood Bank, pop-up clinics offering free BP screening, cervical cancer screening, and diabetes screening. The Club also responds to emergencies in communities affected by storms and works with other stakeholders when help is requested.

The Annual Family Fun Day is designed to be just that, a day of fun for the whole family. It will run from 10am till late at the Manzini Club and promises:

Indigenous Games such as Inketo, Tikotela, Dayi, Insonfto, Three Sticks, Mlabalaba, Ingcatfu

Live Music

Dance Studio

Food Stalls

Corporate Stalls

Kids’ activities and games

Ticket prices range from E150 Early Bird to E250 Phase Two, with kids’ activities tickets at E100.

On the entertainment side, the music line-up for Phase One features Trompies, Itallo, Crooks, and ItsAllBlaq.

“We’ve made sure the entertainment caters for everyone, from family-friendly indigenous games to a music lineup that will get the dancefloor moving. The big highlight is Trompies, a legendary act. This is the kind of community event we love to support as Swaziboy Entertainment,” said Mthunzi “Shadow” Zwane, Director of Swaziboy Entertainment, which is involved in curating the entertainment.

All proceeds from the Family Fun Day go toward funding the Lions’ community work in Eswatini. The Club relies on these events and the generous support of sponsors to keep its projects going year-round.
