WORLD VISION SPENDS E600 MILLION TO ENSURE CLEAN WATER ACCESS

Africa-Press – Eswatini. World Vision Eswatini has invested over E600 million since 2016 to ensure access to clean water for Emaswati.

This was revealed on 10 July 2025 during the launch of a major water project at Nhlanguyavuka, under Mhlangatane Inkhundla, a joint initiative between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy and World Vision Eswatini.

Speaking at the event, Sharon Maziya, Vice Chairperson of World Vision Eswatini, urged the Nhlanguyavuka community to take ownership of the project to ensure its sustainability. She encouraged residents to attend all community meetings related to the project and to make the necessary payments to maintain the infrastructure.

Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Prince Lonkhokhela described the project as transformative and congratulated the residents for being the beneficiaries of such an essential development. “You are fortunate to receive this project—please guard it jealously,” the minister said.

Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe of Nhlanguyavuka expressed his gratitude, noting that access to clean water had long been a critical challenge for his community. “Many of our people never imagined they would live to see the day when taps would bring clean water right into their homesteads,” he said.

Residents recalled the difficulties they faced in the past, including walking 1.5 kilometres to fetch water from the Nkhomati River, where they shared the resource with animals. “The water was not clean, but we had no other option,” said one community member.

Mhlangatane MP Madala Mhlanga expressed his appreciation to both World Vision and the Ministry, stating, “You have brought dignity and relief to our people.” He noted that Nhlanguyavuka was the first community to benefit from this new collaboration between Government and World Vision.

The E250 million water project is part of a broader Memorandum of Understanding signed between World Vision Eswatini and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy. Under this agreement, the two institutions have committed to jointly providing clean water to 18 constituencies (tinkhundla) across the Kingdom. The costs are shared equally, with each partner contributing E125 million.
