Africa-Press – Eswatini. Agriculture took centre stage at the 2025 MTN SEDCO Cija Ngebhizinisi Awards, as three out of five winning businesses hailed from the farming sector, a clear sign of the sector’s growing impact on Eswatini’s economic transformation.
Grow Pure Farm Produce, Kholoza Farm, and Mafu’s Farming were among the standout winners recognised for their innovation, sustainability, and contribution to food security and rural livelihoods. Each was awarded E10 000 in seed capital to scale operations following completion of the 2024/2025 entrepreneurship development programme run by MTN Eswatini in partnership with the Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO).
SEDCO CEO Khethiwe Mhlanga emphasised the resilience and dedication shown by this year’s entrepreneurs, particularly the strong representation of youth and women among the winners, which reflects the programme’s commitment to inclusive economic growth. She further noted that the awards attract entrepreneurs who are passionate about addressing real economic and social needs across Eswatini.
MTN Eswatini Senior Manager for Enterprise Business, Sibusiso Nhleko, highlighted the long-term partnership between MTN and SEDCO, now in its eighth year, describing the initiative as a vital platform for creating opportunities that drive meaningful impact for small business owners and their communities.
Gugu Magagula, founder of Grow Pure Farm Produce, expressed appreciation for the recognition and financial support. She noted that the funding would enable their businesses to grow and employ more emaSwati, and expressed confidence that those who supported them would soon witness the fruits of their investment in action.
In total, 37 young entrepreneurs completed this year’s programme, with five selected to receive funding based on performance and business viability. The initiative has now empowered 140 youth-owned enterprises over its eight-year history, providing both business training and capital support of up to E250 000.
While agriculture led this year’s wins, other sectors were also represented. Leevash Hair and Beauty Lounge, led by Lenhle Shandu, and Khanya’s Mobile Spaza, run by Sikhanyiso Zwane, were also honoured, showcasing the diversity and resilience of Eswatini’s youth-led enterprises.
The MTN SEDCO Cija Ngebhizinisi Awards continue to reinforce the importance of targeted support for small businesses, particularly those with the capacity to scale and contribute meaningfully to the country’s socio-economic goals.
