Emaswati Assured of Medicine Availability this Festive Season

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Emaswati can look forward to a healthier and more secure festive season following firm assurances from the Ministry of Health that all public health facilities across the country are well stocked with essential medicines.

The reassurance was given by Minister of Health, Mduduzi Matsebula, during a visit to the Central Medical Stores (CMS) in Matsapha on Thursday, 10 December 2025. The visit coincided with the receipt of a generous donation of antimalarial medicines valued at E500 000 from the End Malaria Fund (EMF), led by its Chief Executive Officer, Steven Mthethwa.

Minister Matsebula said the availability of medicines across the country reflects Government’s continued commitment to providing quality healthcare for all citizens, particularly during the festive season when demand for health services often increases. He emphasised that the Ministry had put measures in place to ensure uninterrupted supply to hospitals, health centres and clinics nationwide.

“This donation strengthens our national response to malaria and reinforces our preparedness as a health system,” the Minister said. “Government will ensure that these medicines are distributed efficiently so that all public health facilities receive what they need to serve the nation.”

He also appealed to the public to handle medicines responsibly and to use them as prescribed, noting that proper use plays a critical role in improving health outcomes and preserving limited resources.

During the visit, the Minister invited CMS Acting Director, Sifundvo Zwane, to brief the nation on the current status of medicine availability. Zwane confirmed that the Central Medical Stores is fully operational and ready to deliver medicines to all health facilities across the country.

“I am pleased to report that CMS has sufficient stock and the capacity to distribute medicines efficiently,” Zwane said. “We are prepared to supply all public health facilities, ensuring that no community is left without access to essential drugs.”

She added that the current state of readiness at CMS should provide reassurance not only to the Ministry of Health, but also to Government and the public at large. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Eswatini has a total of 327 health facilities, including hospitals, health centres and clinics, all of which rely on CMS for their medical supplies.

The donation from the End Malaria Fund further strengthens Eswatini’s fight against malaria and highlights the importance of partnerships between Government and development partners in improving public health.

As the festive season approaches, the Ministry of Health has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that healthcare services remain accessible, reliable and responsive. The assurance of medicine availability offers peace of mind to Emaswati and reflects continued progress towards a stronger, more resilient health system for the nation.
