Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) continues to strengthen its leadership capacity beyond national borders following the successful completion of a six-month Management and Leadership Development Course in Corrections (MLDCC) No. 8, conducted by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Staff College in Zimbabwe.

The programme concluded on Friday, 12 December 2025, with Chief Officer Mpumelelo Kimberly Nhleko and Sergeant Jabulisiwe Khathwane emerging among the top performers after excelling in the intensive training programme.

The six-month course brought together middle-management officers from ZPCS and HMCS, focusing on operational management, leadership development, correctional administration, rehabilitation programmes and ethical service delivery.

It was designed to enhance practical leadership capacity and improve effectiveness within modern correctional environments across the region.

Chief Officer Mpumelelo Kimberly Nhleko and Sergeant Jabulisiwe Khathwane distinguished themselves through exceptional performance, discipline and leadership, earning awards and special recognition at the graduation ceremony and standing out within a highly competitive regional cohort.

Describing the training as a valuable professional milestone, Chief Officer Mpumelelo Kimberly Nhleko said: “The course sharpened our leadership skills and reinforced the importance of integrity and accountability in correctional management. It has prepared us to implement effective and humane rehabilitation programmes.”

Sergeant Jabulisiwe Khathwane highlighted the importance of regional collaboration, saying: “Training alongside officers from different countries allowed us to exchange best practices and learn new approaches to correctional administration. This experience will positively influence how we serve within His Majesty’s Correctional Services.”

Participants also completed a Business Management and Entrepreneurship module delivered in partnership with the Zimbabwe Open University, equipping officers with skills in project planning, financial management and entrepreneurship to support income-generating and rehabilitation initiatives within correctional institutions.

HMCS Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini praised the officers’ performance, noting that it reflected the organisation’s commitment to capacity building. “His Majesty’s Correctional Services remains committed to ethical leadership and rehabilitation-centred correctional management. The success of our officers in this programme demonstrates our dedication to professional excellence,” she said.

The recognition earned by HMCS officers at MLDCC 8 reinforces the organisation’s commitment to regional cooperation, professional excellence and continuous improvement within correctional services.
