ESWATINI AIMS TO BALANCE E244 MILLION JAPAN TRADE

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Trade between Eswatini and Japan stands at USD 13.6 million, revealed by Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini as he addressed Japanese investors at the Japan-Eswatini Business Forum.

Speaking passionately about the vast opportunities that lie ahead, the Prime Minister highlighted Eswatini’s strategic position as a gateway to the African continental free trade area, with its 1.4 billion consumers.

Currently, the trade balance is heavily skewed towards Japanese imports, but Eswatini is set to change this by expanding exports of locally made timber, citrus fruits, jams, sugar, textiles, and unique handcrafts—particularly those from women-led enterprises. “We aim to change this by leveraging Japan’s generalised system of preferences to secure preferential access for Eswatini’s products,” the Prime Minister explained.

Under His Majesty’s Government, Eswatini has embarked on an ambitious agenda: upgrading infrastructure, streamlining business processes, and accelerating sustainable development. The Prime Minister also extended an invitation to Japan to share its technical expertise, especially in digital transformation. “We welcome Japan’s input to help us realise our development goals and create equitable growth for all,” he said.

Eswatini’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly climate was front and centre at the forum. “Their success underscores our welcoming environment,” Dlamini added, describing the country’s unique position as an original global market with exciting prospects.

As the forum proceeds, a sense of optimism and collaboration filled the air. The event marked a new chapter in the partnership between Eswatini and Japan, promising prosperity and shared growth for both nations.
