Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Kingdom of Eswatini has officially opened its doors to the continent, hosting the XXI Africa Aquatics Zone IV Championships, which bring together 13 countries from the SADC region which takes place at Enjabulweni Hall Manzini.

In his opening remarks, the Minister if sports, culture and Youth Affairs, Bongani Nzima, warmly welcomed athletes, coaches, officials, and dignitaries, describing the championships as more than just a race for medals. “For the next few days, 13 countries from our SADC region will gather here to compete, to build friendships, and to celebrate the sport we all love. These championships are about teamwork, respect, and the joy of swimming, as much as they are about medals and records,” he said.

The event, hosted in collaboration with Africa Aquatics and the Eswatini Swimming Association, is seen as a milestone for the country in showcasing its growing footprint in international sport. The official acknowledged the leadership of Africa Aquatics and the efforts of the local organizing committee for ensuring the championships’ success.

Athletes were encouraged to embrace the competition with pride and determination. “To all athletes — this is your stage. Compete with pride, give your best, and enjoy the experience,” he added. The contribution of coaches, officials, and volunteers was also recognized as crucial to the smooth running of the event.

With the words, “I am honoured to declare the XXI Africa Aquatics Zone IV Championships officially open,” the stage was set for days of thrilling competition, camaraderie, and celebration of aquatic sport in Eswatini.
