Africa-Press – Eswatini. First National Bank (FNB) Eswatini has upheld its commitment to people, innovation and national development as it celebrates 30 years of service in the Kingdom.
Speaking during the Press Play with the Media engagement today at House on Fire, the bank’s leadership outlined how the milestone is being used to deepen impact rather than merely reflect on the past.
People at the Centre of the Brand
FNB Chief Marketing Officer Sibusile Dlamini said the celebrations intentionally began internally, recognising employees as the heartbeat of the brand.
“We cannot celebrate our customers without first celebrating our people. They are the engine of our success,” she said. Branch activations, staff engagements and customer interactions formed part of the April anniversary activities.
Innovation with a Human Touch
Over three decades, FNB has transformed banking in Eswatini, pioneering digital banking solutions while reinforcing customer service standards. Dlamini noted that while technology has reshaped the bank, its purpose remains rooted in helping customers navigate their financial journeys with confidence and trust.
Strong Support for SMEs
FNB’s support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) featured prominently. Through partnerships such as the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards and trade fair engagements, the bank invested over E1.7 million to empower local businesses. Free exhibition platforms and the MarketSquare digital marketplace have further expanded access to markets for SMEs.
Breaking Barriers to Finance
FNB Chief People Officer Veronica Ntshalintshali highlighted innovations aimed at reducing operational challenges for SMEs. Agency banking, speed point solutions and e-commerce payment gateways have made banking more accessible. The bank’s score-based lending model has already disbursed more than E250 million to over 1 000 SME clients, challenging long-held perceptions around SME risk.
Investing in Skills and Youth
Executive Head of Commercial Banking Chantell Littler said FNB’s Top Employer certification demonstrates its commitment to excellence in people management. Graduate programmes, government partnerships and collaborations with local and international universities are equipping young people with practical skills to improve employability and address youth unemployment.
Help Beyond Banking
Through the Open B Foundation, FNB continues to invest in community upliftment. Signature initiatives such as the SOS Child-Headed Family Programme and the ‘30 Acts of Help’, implemented with the Ministry of Health, reflect the bank’s focus on meaningful, long-term social impact.
As FNB Eswatini’s 30th anniversary celebrations continue, the bank has made it clear that its focus remains firmly on the future. By blending innovation, people development and community investment, FNB is positioning itself as a trusted partner in Eswatini’s ongoing economic and social transformation.
