Africa-Press – Eswatini. Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Thulisile Dladla and Minister of Public Works and Transport Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe have officially launched a housing project aimed at providing new homes for two elderly individuals in the Mavula community.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to support vulnerable populations in Eswatini.

Beneficiaries of the Project

The first beneficiaries of this housing project are Makhundu Aaron, aged 85, and Monica Magagula, aged 72. Currently living in a fragile one-room stick-and-mud hut, this new housing initiative represents a significant improvement in their living conditions. DPM Dladla emphasized that this project marks a new beginning for the Magagula family and others in similar situations.

Collaborative Efforts

The launch was made possible through collaboration with various partners, including the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and the Eswatini Umbutfo Defence Force. DPM Dladla expressed confidence in the project’s swift progress due to this teamwork. Minister Ndwandwe praised the quick response to the King’s directive and highlighted the importance of community involvement in identifying vulnerable households.

Additional Beneficiaries

During the launch, DPM Dladla also visited other individuals in need, including:

• Nandi Nyamane Mhlanga (48), a disabled mother of four who relies on a government disability grant.

• Mliba Motsa (54), a father of two living in a deteriorating home.

• Thulisile Mhlanga (51), a mother of four who had started building a two-room house but faced financial constraints.

Thanks to the NDMA, construction materials have been provided, and work is already underway for these additional beneficiaries.

Future Plans

The housing project is set to expand to other areas, including the Mpolonjeni and Hosea constituencies, furthering the government’s commitment to improving living conditions for the elderly and vulnerable populations across Eswatini.

Conclusion

The launch of this housing project is a commendable step towards addressing the needs of the elderly and vulnerable in Eswatini. By providing safe and secure housing, the government is not only improving the quality of life for individuals like Makhundu and Monica but also reinforcing the importance of community support and collaboration in tackling social issues.
