Africa-Press – Eswatini. Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on the private sectors of Zimbabwe and Eswatini to seize new opportunities for joint ventures that can propel regional growth.
Speaking at the 57th Eswatini International Trade Fair, the President identified a wide range of sectors ripe for collaboration, including agriculture, sugarcane production, mining, tourism, manufacturing, infrastructure development, renewable energy, and information technology.
“We must nurture our entrepreneurs, empower the youth, and support our local investors to transform these sectors into engines of inclusive growth,” he said, addressing business leaders, policymakers, and traditional authorities in attendance.
Mnangagwa underscored the importance of collaboration in advancing sustainable industrialisation under the frameworks of SADC, COMESA, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). By pooling resources and expertise, he said, both countries could unlock the vast potential of their economies while also addressing global challenges such as climate change and economic shocks.
The President highlighted that Zimbabwe has already made strides in building a people-centred national development agenda, where citizens are encouraged to believe in their own products and industries. This, he stressed, should inspire a new chapter of regional economic independence led by Africans themselves.
Eswatini’s growing connectivity with Zimbabwe, particularly through Eswatini Airlines’ direct flights to Harare, has already boosted trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. Mnangagwa’s invitation to the private sector therefore comes at a pivotal moment, where stronger commercial partnerships can transform potential into tangible progress.
As the two nations deepen their ties, Mnangagwa’s message was clear: Africa’s prosperity depends on strategic partnerships, home-grown solutions, and inclusive growth driven by the private sector.
