Africa-Press – Eswatini. For Parade Commander Obed Dambayi Nhleko, the 22nd Police Day and Passing Out Parade at Matsapha Police Academy will forever be etched in his memory. After 35 years of loyal and exemplary service, Nhleko’s dedication was honoured in front of the nation as His Majesty King Mswati III promoted him from Senior Assistant Commissioner to Assistant National Commissioner.

His career-defining moment took place during a grand celebration marking 118 years since the establishment of the Royal Eswatini Police Service. The event was graced by Their Majesties King Mswati III and the Indlovukazi, and attended by officers, dignitaries, and proud families.

Seven more distinguished officers – Phakamile Gcamane Dlamini, Fikelephi Mtsetfwa, Joseph Matsebula, Bhekani Khumalo, Jabulani Madlopha, Sabelo John Jele, and Mvumeleni Mabuza – were also elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police, underscoring the King’s commitment to recognising excellence within the force.

The day was alive with tradition and pageantry, precision marching from the police infantry, an electrifying drill display, and spirited kutsamba and ummiso dances by cultural troupes in full regalia. The police brass band kept spirits high between proceedings.

Adding to the celebrations, a new class of recruits officially graduated. Recruit Constable Sambulo Dludlu earned the title of Best Overall Recruit, excelling across all four training squads. Other standout performers included Nomfanelo Bhembe (Best in Squad 244), Mduduzi Simelane (Best in Squad 245), and Makhosazana Nxumalo (Best in Squad 246), along with others recognised for discipline, resilience, drilling, and shooting skills.

Families and friends flooded the parade grounds after the official programme, capturing proud moments with the newly promoted officers and fresh graduates.

National Commissioner Vusi Manoma Masango commended the honourees and highlighted that the Matsapha Police Academy’s programmes are fully accredited by the Eswatini Higher Education Council (ESHEC) – ensuring the highest standards in academic and operational training.
