Africa-Press – Eswatini. Mbabane Highlanders patrons have set the record straight, dismissing rumours that the club chased away eight players who had travelled to Pietermaritzburg for a pre-season training.
Speaking on behalf of the patrons, Ace Jele clarified that proper communication channels were followed in engaging with the players in question. He explained that the decision was based on technical and contractual considerations, not hostility or poor treatment.
According to Jele, some of the players were young and unlikely to get sufficient game time at Highlanders. “We felt it was better to lend them to other teams where they could gain more experience,” he said.
Others, he added, had contracts that had already expired, and the technical team had not been able to renew them. In addition, a few of the players were trialists whose performances did not meet the club’s requirements during assessments.
“After careful consideration of our decision, the technical bench arranged transport to bring them back to Eswatini,” Jele said, emphasising that the move was done in a respectful and organised manner.
The clarification follows an uproar from some fans who believed the players had been mistreated. Jele reiterated that the patrons’ focus remains on maintaining professionalism and ensuring that all players are treated fairly while pursuing the best interests of the club.
