Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini is already getting down to business at the ongoing Expo 2025 taking place in Yumeshima Expo Site in Osaka, in the Kansai region of Japan. The event was launched by the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA) at Mountain View Hotel, Mbabane on April 1, 2025.

At the event, the premier is visiting various pavilions at the trade event to see what other countries are offering. According to reports from local media, Dlamini, along with members of his delegation, held talks with officials from Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Turkey, and Technoworld. The discussions focused on ICT, AI, innovation in education, and cultural and skills exchange, identifying these areas as potential collaboration opportunities for development. The prime minister also took a digital tour through different simulations, showcasing the evolution of technology.

Joining him on this trip are Minister of Public Service Mabulala Maseko, representing Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Pholile Shakantu, along with Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Monqoba Khumalo, Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs Jane Mkhonta-Simelane, Senator Chief Ngome Ndlangamandla, and EIPA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sibani Mngomezulu.

The Osaka Expo 2025 is a World Expo organized and sanctioned by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), running from April 13, 2025, to October 13, 2025. This marks the second time Osaka has hosted a World Expo, the first being in 1970. The event returned to its traditional 5-year scheduling cycle after the 2020 edition was delayed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The projected visitor count is approximately 28 million.

The Expo aims to bring together global innovators to explore and develop breakthrough technologies, foster new ideas, and enhance investment opportunities. It emphasizes the importance of regional economies and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), integrating the United Nations SDGs into its strategic messaging to underscore its commitment to sustainable development.

The theme for Expo 2025 is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” which encourages critical thinking about how individuals wish to live and maximize their potential. The event is seen as a platform for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), occurring five years before the 2030 target year for these goals, providing an opportunity to assess progress and accelerate efforts leading up to 2030 and beyond.

The Government of Japan will showcase its Society 5.0 strategy, aiming to create a super-smart society that addresses global issues using advanced technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics. Eswatini is eager to leverage new technologies and is actively pursuing collaboration with Japan to learn from its experiences.

In alignment with the Expo 2025 theme, Eswatini’s pavilion will promote a future society that respects and preserves its cultural heritage and traditions. Minister Khumalo emphasized the importance of maintaining culture and traditions, which have contributed to the peace and stability the country has enjoyed for decades and have driven its economy, making Eswatini a preferred destination for investment and tourism. The theme for the Eswatini pavilion is “Our History Defines Our Future Society: Originality – Heritage – Future.” This core message will be conveyed through displays, videos, gifts for visitors, and various cultural performances during Eswatini’s National Day celebrations.
