His Majesty King Mswati III, through the voice of Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, has officially launched Lenacapavir, a revolutionary injectable PrEP on December 1, 2025, World AIDS Day Commemoration held at Hhukwini giving Emaswati the opportunity to protect themselves against HIV.
The long-awaited injection arrived in the Kingdom on 18 November 2025, and the first client received it during the ceremony.
The Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini emphasized the importance of this new preventive measure, stating, “Today, we launch Lenacapavir, an innovative preventive method that gives every Emaswati the opportunity to protect themselves against HIV. This injection arrived in Eswatini on 18 November 2025.”
The Prime Minister highlighted the continued threat of HIV/AIDS in the country, noting, “Every year, 4 000 young people contract new HIV infections, while 2 800 people lose their lives to HIV/AIDS. It is the responsibility of every citizen to ensure they are not counted among these alarming statistics.”
He urged married couples to remain faithful, youth to delay sexual activity and focus on education, and the nation to reject stigma, which continues to hinder progress in the HIV response. “Stigma continues to hinder our progress in the HIV response, and we must stand firm against it,” he said.

While celebrating the innovation, the Prime Minister reminded citizens that vigilance is still essential. “Reaching a stage where the virus is suppressed does not mean HIV has been eradicated. Challenges such as economic vulnerability, social instability, and reduced funding continue to affect our fight against HIV. Our work remains extensive.”
He also encouraged Emaswati to adopt prevention strategies, including avoiding multiple and unknown sexual partners, using condoms, medical male circumcision, PrEP, and proper use of antiretroviral therapy. “These measures do not only limit infection but also teach people to take responsibility for their health and the health of others,” he said.
Mbabane East Member of Parliament Welcome Dlamini supported the Prime Minister’s message, cautioning that, “Even with Lenacapavir, this injectable does not protect against other STIs. Responsible choices remain essential for safeguarding one’s health.”
Princess Tsandzile, Regional Administrator for the Hhohho Region, welcomed dignitaries and thanked all stakeholders for hosting the commemoration. She called on NERCHA, the Ministry of Health, and partnering organizations to strengthen HIV programs and advance the nation’s goal of an AIDS-free Eswatini by 2030.
The World AIDS Day 2025 commemoration concluded with the symbolic lighting of candles to honor those who have passed away from AIDS and those living with the virus, while renewin” the nation’s commitment to fighting HIV through innovation, responsible behavior, and continued public health efforts.
